SideCar is an independent Contemporary Art space located in Hammond, Indiana, 40 minutes southeast of Downtown Chicago. During the spring/summer of 2009, Carl Baratta and Michael Kaysen co-curated an exhibition of work by several local artists. The original exhibition space became unavailable. Reluctant to abandon what they believed to be a quality exhibition, they decided (with help from many of the artists involved) to rehab the space located at 411 Huehn in order to show the work. SideCar is envisioned as a cross between an exhibition venue and an art laboratory. We work closely with the artists shown to facilitate and support those artist's ideas and help build their careers. There is a concerted effort to place their works in personal collections, thereby supporting those artist's careers and protecting their work for future generations viewing.
